On February 1st, the US CPSC announced a recall of Chinese made children’s bicycles. The product being recalled this time is the HolaBelle NextGen children’s bicycle. The products are available in 10 inches, 12 inches, 16 inches, and 20 inches, in black, blue, red, purple, and pink, with the NextGen logo printed on the frame.
The reason for this recall is that the product does not comply with US bicycle safety standards and poses a risk of child collision and injury. 10 inch, 12 inch, and 16 inch bicycles have handbrake but no foot brake; The 20 inch bicycle is not equipped with a chain guard and the pedals do not have reflective panels. Federal regulations require bicycles with seat heights equal to or less than 25 inches to be equipped with foot brakes, and require full coverage of chain guards to prevent clothing or body parts from being pinched.
The products recalled this time were sold from October 2020 to November 2022, with approximately 22700 units sold for a price range of $80-135. As of now, there have been no reports of accidents or casualties. CPSC recommends that consumers immediately stop using the product and contact the company to obtain a full refund.
It’s crucial for consumers to be aware of product recalls, especially when it involves safety concerns. In this case, the recall of the HolaBelle NextGen children’s bicycles highlights non-compliance with US bicycle safety standards, posing a potential risk to children.
Consumers who have purchased these bicycles are advised to take immediate action by stopping the use of the product and contacting the company for a full refund. It’s reassuring that, as of now, there have been no reports of accidents or casualties associated with these bicycles.
