In cycling, helmets are undoubtedly the most important gear. They absorb and disperse impact forces during falls or collisions, reducing direct injury to the head. Typically, this is the primary function of a helmet. Its design aims to protect the head optimally, which is why helmets generally appear as a semi-spherical shape that fits snugly over the top of the head.

In some cases, helmet manufacturers add additional features to helmets. Visibility: Many helmets come with reflective materials or bright colors to enhance visibility during night rides or in low-light conditions, reducing the risk of accidents. Additional Protection: Some helmets include extra protective elements, such as visors and extended coverage at the back, providing comprehensive head protection. Ventilation: Modern helmets usually feature ventilation holes to maintain airflow, helping cyclists stay cool and comfortable in hot weather. Lightweight Design: Lighter helmets reduce the burden on the neck and head, helping to minimize fatigue during long rides.

However, these are all common innovative designs that do not significantly alter the appearance of a bicycle helmet. Today, we are looking at several new designs aimed at improving the aerodynamic performance of helmets. Each of these helmets looks quite strange from the outside.

1.Longest Bicycle Helmet – Lazer Wasp

The Lazer Wasp helmet features an extremely long tail. When worn, the tail of the Lazer Wasp helmet extends down to touch your back, providing exceptional aerodynamic performance.

2.Turtle Shell Helmet – Poc Tempor

The Poc Tempor helmet looks like a turtle shell from above. The edges of the Poc Tempor helmet hug your shoulders closely, allowing the airflow hitting you from the front to be smoothly deflected.

3.Shark Helmet – Giro Aerohead

The Giro Aerohead helmet transforms the entire Team Visma into shark-like riders. Many people think this helmet looks unattractive, but SUMLON believes it’s incredibly cool. Although Team Visma chose this helmet, we cannot find specific aerodynamic performance data for this helmet online.

4.Darth Vader Helmet

This is the Aero helmet that Rudy Project designed for Time Trial races. It hasn’t been released yet, so we don’t know its model name, but it has already garnered a lot of attention. From the front, it makes the wearer look like Darth Vader from Star Wars.

5.Helmet with Built-In Neck Sleeve – S-works TT5

This helmet includes a built-in neck sleeve. The neck sleeve allows the airflow hitting the helmet to be smoothly channeled down the back of your neck. However, the UCI recently changed the rules, no longer allowing helmets with built-in neck sleeves.
